Openness and transparency

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has an obligation to ensure that decision making is open and transparent and accords with the principles of good governance.

The Police and Crime Panel has the ability to review and scrutinise key decisions made by the PCC and deadline dates for decisions relating to the setting of the budget and council tax precept, and the production of the Police and Crime Plan, are laid down in statute.

Under the FOI Act all Police and Crime Commissioners must adopt a Publication Scheme setting out the information they should routinely make publicly available.

FOIThe Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 has given the right of access to recorded information held by public authorities, subject to certain exemptions.

The FOI Act applies to the vast majority of public authorities, including the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC).
